Technology and Innovation Management
Since October 1st 2024, Stefan is Professor at the University of Vienna where he holds the Chair for Technology and Innovation Management. Before this appointment, he was a Professor of Strategy and Innovation at ESMT Berlin where he held various positions since 2011. He completed his Habilitation (2010) and his Doctorate in Management (2005) at Ludwig-Maximilians University LMU Munich. Also, he has been a Senior Fellow at the Berlin Centre for Consumer Policies (BCCP) and serves on the boards of the European Policy for Intellectual Property Association EPIP and the Doctoral Program of the Berlin School of Economics. He is also a member of the editorial review boards of the Strategic Management Journal and Strategy Science.
His research interests cover the intersection of firm strategy, technological innovation, industrial organization and law. Engaging with students and the public on important innovation policy issues is a key aspect of his work. Beyond the classroom, he has worked with numerous clients on questions of innovation as well as data analytics.
Results of Stefan's research have been published in leading journals including Academy of Management Journal, Harvard Business Review, Management Science, Strategic Management Journal, Review of Economics and Statistics and Research Policy.
